GOTs Certified Cotton

We choose to use organic cotton as its less damaging to the planet and to the people who grow it. Here are some reasons why cotton is better. . .

  • Cotton is hypoallergenic and is rarely the cause of an allergic reaction of the human skin
  • Cotton lasts longer as it is more durable than most materials. Perfect for passing on
  • Cotton products are softer and gentler on your skin, making it perfect for babies!
  • Cotton is better than synthetic fabrics when it comes to washing. Unfortunately, polyester, acrylic and polyester-cotton release microfibres into wastewater which are so small that they get released into the environment.
  • Cotton is a durable, absorbent, soft and breathable material compared to other man-made fabrics. It is also static resistant.

What's the difference between regular or organic cotton? Have a read below. . .

     Regular Cotton Organic Cotton
Regular cotton uses too much water - One kilogram of cotton takes as much as 10,000-20,000 litres of water to produce. This is due to larger- scale genetically modified crops Organic cotton uses 91 per cent less water than regular cotton as it's grown on small scale farms. They are mainly rainfed rather than irrigated.
Regular cotton uses toxic chemicals (pesticides) which end up in the water supply. Low exposure can lead to health issues Only low impact chemicals are used, water and energy is monitored, and wastewater is treated properly before being released.
Regular cotton produces 46% more greenhouse gas emissions than organic Fewer greenhouse gas emissions due to simply by not using nitrous dioxide-releasing fertilisers and pesticides. the soil also acts as a ‘carbon sink’, absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere.
Farmers tend to be paid less than the living wage. Where with GOTS certified they ensure that the cotton you are buying meets approved standards across the supply chain. Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) ensures factories have met strict social and environmental criteria: Working conditions are safe and workers’ rights are protected.
    Untreated cotton is biodegradable
