CUSTOM EMBROIDERY

Custom embroidery for clothing with a story, created in my Brighton-based embroidery studio. Each piece is either hand-embroidered or stitched freehand on a vintage 1960s Singer 20U zig-zag sewing machine, using a satin stitch embroidery technique that gives every design an organic, expressive finish.

FAQ

What type of embroidery do you offer?

All custom embroidery is either hand-embroidered or created using a vintage Singer 20U zig-zag sewing machine from the 1960s, worked freehand using a satin stitch embroidery technique. This allows for expressive, organic designs — each piece is completely unique.

What items can be embroidered?

You’re welcome to bring along your own garments or textiles — jackets, shirts, denim, workwear, tote bags and more. Vintage and pre-loved pieces work especially well. If you’re unsure whether something is suitable, just ask.

How long does custom embroidery take?

Lead time is usually 3–5 weeks, depending on the size and complexity of the design and current workload. If you have a specific deadline in mind, always get in touch — we can discuss timings and make a plan where possible.

It also depends on what you're having done. Names, initials, and dates can be added on the spot. More complex designs can take up to 3-5 weeks

Do you help with design ideas?

Yes! You can come with a clear idea, a reference image, or just a loose concept. We’ll talk it through together and create something that suits the item, the fabric, and how you’ll wear it.

Is every piece the same?

No, and that’s the beauty of it. Because the embroidery is done by hand or freehand on a vintage machine, no two pieces will ever be identical. Small variations are part of the process and are what make each piece special.

How much does custom embroidery cost?

Pricing varies depending on the size, detail, and placement of the embroidery. Quotes are given on a case-by-case basis once we’ve discussed your idea and garment.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, custom embroidery work needs to be discussed and booked in advance. Drop me a message or visit the studio to chat through your idea before leaving your item.

Can you repair or embroider over existing marks or damage?

Often, yes. Embroidery can be a great way to cover stains, holes, or worn areas... turning them into part of the design. Send a photo or bring the piece in, and we’ll see what’s possible.
